Lead-acid Civic reaches 60,000 km

millbrookA Honda Civic fitted with an Effpower Bipolar lead-acid battery and Provector battery management electronics has just completed a 60,000 km battery endurance test at Millbrook Proving Ground.  This is the latest in a series of tests managed by Provector and funded by the Advanced Lead Acid Battery Consortium (ALABC).

As in previous tests Provector developed the hardware and software which enabled the battery to be seamlessly integrated with the existing hybrid system, allowing full performance from the vehicle.

Throughout the endurance test the Civic was extensively monitored using Provector's comprehensive data collection and analysis facility.  The results have been regularly posted on a dedicated website open to all partners involved in the project.

The battery has compared well with the standard NiMH battery that is usually installed in the Civic, further confirming the potential of lead-acid to offer a price-competitive option for this demanding application.
